Le Méridien Penina Golf & Resort is no less than a golfing institution in Portugal. Home to three courses, including the Championship Course designed by Sir Henry Cotton, the resort spans 360 acres and has hosted the Portuguese Open ten times. The Championship Course, formerly known as the Penina, was the first course to open in Portugal, laid out on a former rice field by the three times British Open winner.

The resort is also home to two nine hole courses; the Resort and the Academy, which offer challenges for beginners and more advanced players alike. Le Méridien Penina also has excellent leisure facilities including an outdoor Olympic sized swimming pool, football field and tennis centre and is located just a few miles away from the town of Portimao.

Pro tips:

- The 13th hole of the Championship Course has been rated one of the 500 best holes in the world and involves a long carry across the water. Play this carefully, as the curving shape of the fairway encourages the shot to go right into the hazard.
- The 7th hole on the Resort course needs to be approached carefully; steer left to avoid the lake which is located next to the green.
