Lee Westwood Set to Become Golf's World Number 1?

After his recent performances in the Ryder Cup for Europe Lee Westwood is being widely tipped to replace Tiger Woods as the world number one golfer. If he does, you can safely say that the tables will have turned in the world of golf, with Europe now also, some may say becoming the top team, finally being seen as better than the US team.
If Westwood does get the call on All Hallows eve then let’s hope he doesn’t go the same way as some of the other people who have hit the heights in ‘official rankings’. Take for example events of late, England playing lowly minnows Montenegro. A massive 64 places between the two teams and England could only manage a goalless draw against them, in some sense people may see that as us scuppering our chances to qualify for Euro 2012. Which would be a massive disaster if that happened.
So, bringing this back around to golf let’s all hope that if Lee Westwood does get the call he doesn’t throw it all down the drain in an England fashion. Of course there are teams, and namely golfers that do seem to throw these prestigious honours down the drain. Thankfully Tiger Woods didn’t throw it away in the rankings stakes, but he did throw away his personal life. It’s hardly suitable to call it a private life, because let’s face it, the whole world knew about him and his antics.
Like so many before him, Woods, Beckham and more recently Wayne Rooney have let the limelight get to them and they have lost their heads and almost thrown away everything for quite seemingly nothing. Let’s hope golf’s new number one doesn’t follow suit.
