Thomas Levet suffers injury celebrating French Open win and forced to withdraw from Scottish Open

After coming from behind to snatch victory at the French Open, Thomas Levet has been forced to pull out of the Scottish Open following a freak accident.

The 42 year old Frenchman was three shots behind going into the final day of the tournament but came back to finish seven under par and take the trophy. He first played in the event 25 years ago, and beat joint second place finishers Mark Foster and Thorbjorn Olesen by just a single stroke.

Celebrating the win at his home tournament, Levet jumped into a lake and suffered a small fracture to his shin. As a result, his leg was put in a cast and he has withdrawn from the Open at Inverness.

He is also now uncertain for the British Open at Royal St George’s, Sandwich, which starts on 14th July.

He joins a number of other players doubted for the event in Kent including former world number one Tiger Woods.

Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal will also not be playing, after pulling out of the Scottish event which has meant he has not qualified for the British tournament.
